First visit

What to expect at your first visit

Your first visit is a chance to have your baby’s ears examined and to ask every question you have. You will leave knowing whether molding may help and what the next steps would be.

What to bring

  • Your insurance card and a photo ID
  • Your baby’s date of birth and birth details, including whether your baby was born early
  • Your pediatrician’s name and phone number
  • Any dated photos of your baby’s ears since birth
  • A feeding, diapers, wipes and a spare outfit
  • A list of your questions

What happens during the evaluation

  1. Check-in. Our team confirms your details and insurance information.
  2. History. The clinician asks about the birth, your baby’s health and what you have noticed about the ears.
  3. Examination. The clinician gently examines both ears, looking at shape and how soft the cartilage is.
  4. Discussion. You hear whether molding may help, what treatment involves, the expected visits and what it may cost.

Possible next steps

  • Molding is recommended. The team explains the plan and, with your agreement, schedules or begins the fitting. Fitting may involve trimming a small area of hair near the ear so the device can attach.
  • Monitoring is recommended. Some ears are watched for a short time before deciding.
  • Molding is not the right fit. The clinician explains why and discusses other options, which may include another specialist.

After a fitting

You will go home with care instructions and your follow-up schedule. Aftercare at home.

What happens during the evaluation?

The clinician takes a short history, examines both ears and explains whether molding may help, what treatment involves and what it may cost.

Will treatment start at the first visit?

Sometimes. If molding is recommended and you agree, the team will tell you whether fitting can happen that day or needs a separate appointment.

How are follow-up visits arranged?

Our team schedules follow-up visits with you before you leave and confirms them by phone.

Can both parents come?

Yes. Bringing a partner or support person can help, especially if you have many questions.
